FBI YOUTH ACADEMY AT MIAMI DADE COLLEGE – NORTH CAMPUS

The FBI Youth Academy at Miami Dade College North Campus is designed to educate South Florida high school students about the inner workings of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), opportunities available at the Miami Dade College School of Justice, and various local law enforcement career prospects.  The FBI Youth Academy afford students a unique opportunity to engage collaboratively with FBI agents, law enforcement personnel, and university professors that foster leadership skills development, critical thinking, and team building.

The program consists of 4 days of an intriguing mix of classroom, laboratory, outdoor, and field trip activities that culminate to a Graduation Ceremony and Banquet.  Students gain a full awareness of the required education and training for specific careers with the FBI and general law enforcement agencies.  Conducted on the 245-acre Miami Dade College-North Campus, students take part in a diverse schedule that includes formal instruction, scenario-based training, and practical applications.  Students are fully immersed in hands-on modules that include mock crime scene investigations, SWAT led hostage recovery, and other activities that emphasize expert investigation techniques.

The FBI Youth Academy at Miami Dade College North Campus is typically held mid-June.  Dates are confirmed by the early April of each year.

In 2009, the FBI Youth Academy at Miami Dade College North Campus was recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice - Federal Bureau of Investigation as the most Creative Initiative between an FBI Field Division and a local FBI Citizens' Academy Alumni Association.

ACADEMY REQUIREMENTS

  • High school junior or senior during the school year the program is offered
  • 500 Word Essay
  • Good school Conduct
  • 2.5 or higher GPA
  • Parent permission and release forms
  • Letters of recommendations from school representative, employer, or community leader
  • Copy of third marking period report card or equivalent

Students accepted to the FBI Academy program receive a FULL scholarship.

The FBI Youth Academy at Miami Dade College North Campus is sponsored by the FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association-South Florida, FBI-Miami Division, Miami Dade College-North Campus, El Dorado Furniture, Mohsin & Fauzia Jaffer Foundation, Dr. Jonathan Tuman, and Stephen Schott.  The Academy is also funded by the generous contributions from Armando Gutierrez, Suhail Nanji, Filemon and Kelly Lopez, and Julian & Julia Mesa.
